Questions and Answers about UFCW of America FCU
What is a credit union?
A credit union is a type of financial institution. We offer various types of savings accounts, checking accounts, loans, and services. We are not-for-profit and are member-owned. There are thousands of credit unions in the United States and its territories, all with their own criteria for membership eligibility.
I just learned that I am eligible to join UFCW of America FCU. What must I do to join?
You must fill out a membership application. You can either have one mailed to you or you can print out the form that is online
here. All members are required to have a Primary Savings Account and keep the $25.00 minimum in it.
Is the $25.00 a fee?
No. It is the minimum that you have to have in the Primary Savings Account in order to have an account. It is not available to clear checks, ATM/Visa check card transactions, or any other type of transaction. It represents your share of the credit union. If you do decide to close out your account, you will get the $25.00 back.
Is UFCW of America FCU federally insured?
Yes. We are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a government agency that supervises credit unions. It works similarly to the FDIC. To learn more about the NCUA, visit their website at
http://www.ncua.gov/.
Who governs the credit union?
Our Board of Directors, all who are member-elected, govern the credit union. They create policies and direct the affairs of the credit union. They are not paid.
If I lose/ quit my job, can I still remain a member of the credit union?
Yes. Your membership is for life. You do not have to close out your account just because you no longer work at the job that made you eligible to join the credit union.
I have a family member who is part of UFCW of America FCU. Can I join?
As long as that family member is a current member of the credit union, yes. Please note that only immediate family members of a UFCW of America FCU member can join (parents, children, siblings, etc).
I don't leave near the credit union. How can I access my account if I'm away?
You can take advantage of our many different services such as PAT (account access by phone), PAM (account access online), and our ATM/ Visa check card. These services allow you to stay on top of your account even if you aren't near the credit union. If you are near another credit union that is part of the Credit Union Shared Service Center, you can also visit these locations and perform transactions there (you will need to know the name of the credit union and your account number as well as having photo identification). As always, you can call us during our hours of operations and ask any questions you have.
How long do I have to be a member before I can take advantage of the services that the credit union offers?
Immediately. Once you are a member of UFCW of America FCU, you can take advantage of any service that we offer.
